Dale Sorenson's 2004 Swedish Royal Procession Photos

This morning I awoke bright and early (thanks to jet lag) and decided to do some photography. It turned out that thanks to be the opening day of the Swedish Parliament I was in for a show. What luck!

As I walked by, these military ships docked in the harbor. And out poured my every dream come true ... oops ... I mean ... The Swedish Royal Guard. The officers stood watch.

The guard marched up to the palace. And then the ships sailed away. Next we waited.

The Royal Band arrived and played some lovely patriotic ditties. And then we waited. Flags were unfurled.

And we waited. And waited. And waited.

And waited. I guess this poor fellow had a little too much waiting. More flags were unfurled.

Crowds gathered. Notice the two workers in yellow sitting on the raised scoop of their heavy construction vehicle. This is one of my most favorite photos I've ever taken. And then we waited some more. It's too bad there wasn't anything for me to look at while I was doing all that waiting.

Finally, the King and Queen of Sweden strolled by, looking for all the world like a sweet old retired couple on their way to church. They were followed by a few more official royal ladies looking very stylish in their hats. Finally, the procession was over and the royal guard marched off. Well done, boys!
