Dale Sorenson's 2004 Lake Havasu and Hoover Dam Photos

In January 2003 I visited my father, now retired, on Lake Havasu. Located on the California/Arizona border, this lake is one of the six artificial lakes created by dams on the Colorado River. This trip made me nostalgic for all those summers I spend as a kid on Lake Powell. I do so love the water, crisp desert air, the bright sun and boating with family.

My whole childhood my family had a boat. We always spent the summers on water. Lake Berryessa , California; the reefs of Florida and Lake Powell on the Colorado Plateau are among my happiest memories. Sunshine on my Shoulders Makes Me Happy

This is how I usually think of my Dad, at the helm of a boat, wearing something tacky but somehow making it work.

Ah ... there's nothing quite like the feeling of 100 MPH wind in your face ... slowly inflating your cheeks like a balloon through your nose. "Quack" This pumping station is where the State of California blatantly violates its inter-state agreements by continuously taking more water from the Colorado River than that to which it is entitled.

Check out this idiot trying to cram his truck through a barricade expressly designed to keep large trucks off the dam. And here are the results. The free-flowing Colorado below the dam

Driving to catch my plane out of Las Vegas back to New York, I drove over the Hoover Dam. It's difficult to convey, even with photos, the awesome scale of this incredible feat of engineering.
